Cancer Care Alberta is responsible for cancer treatment for the province of Alberta and also conducts innovative cancer research. The Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research (CEPR) within Cancer Care Alberta has a position open for a casual Epidemiology Research Associate based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Our team of Research Scientists is engaged in cutting-edge, population-based, epidemiologic cancer research that is examining the distribution and trends of cancer in populations, the underlying causes of cancer, interventions to reduce the risk of cancer and improve outcomes after diagnosis, and methods for improving epidemiologic studies. Our Research Scientists are nationally and internationally recognized for their research contributions in cancer epidemiology and biostatistics. They are conducting large scale case-control and cohort studies as well as randomized intervention trials of modifiable cancer risk factors that are examining primary, secondary and tertiary cancer prevention. They are also leading analyses in observational epidemiology using large health administrative databases available in Alberta. The Epidemiology Research Associate will work within an established research support team in the Department of CEPR that currently includes several MSc-trained epidemiologists and biostatisticians, database managers and data support specialists, grant administrators, research assistants and trainees.
Description:
As part of a dynamic team, the Epidemiology Research Associate will have specific individual responsibilities actively supporting research conducted in the Department of CEPR. These responsibilities will include activities related to obtaining and conducting externally-funded, investigator-initiated, epidemiologic research studies. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of research studies led by two or three different CEPR Research Scientists and will typically work on more than one concurrent task. Independent judgment and expertise will be essential in performing the job duties that include: Assisting in the writing and preparation of grant applications. Assisting in the writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication. Performing literature reviews as required. Assisting in the design of research studies including data collection methods. Assisting in the preparation of recruitment and data collection materials for research projects. Assist in preparation of ethics approval for research projects. Preparing presentations for scientific conferences. Preparing written summaries of data analyses including figures, tables, as needed for scientific papers. As part of ongoing development, the Epidemiology Research Associate will also have access to seminars, research forums, and other learning opportunities.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Epidemiology or Public Health. Experience writing literature reviews and participating in the planning and execution of research projects is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: Performing statistical analyses using statistical packages is not required but would be beneficial.
