Our Client is hiring experienced Front-End Designers to support the Digital Design and Delivery Division, known as 3D. The selected consultants will work on service innovation, program review, and digital transformation initiatives across multiple ministries.
Role Overview
The Front-End Designer will work within cross-functional Agile product teams to design accessible, user-centred digital services for Albertans.
The role includes UX and interface design, prototyping, design systems, usability testing, accessibility reviews, user research support, and the preparation of build-ready design specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Design evidence-based digital service experiences aligned with Government of Alberta standards.
Create wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, streamlined scenarios, and interaction designs.
Develop and maintain component libraries, design systems, pattern libraries, and style guides.
Produce clear, build-ready design specifications for development teams.
Explore and evaluate multiple design solutions for complex service challenges.
Plan and support user research, field research, interviews, and usability testing.
Prepare usability test plans, findings, and design recommendations.
Review designs for accessibility and alignment with WCAG standards.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
Collaborate with product owners, researchers, developers, service designers, and business stakeholders.
Present and justify design decisions to project teams, program areas, and senior leadership.
Support two to three projects concurrently as business and user needs evolve.
Mandatory Requirements
Minimum two years of experience designing or improving web-based or digital services as a Front-End Designer.
Minimum two years of experience developing UX artifacts such as wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, and scenarios.
Minimum two years of experience working in a cross-functional Agile product team.
A personal portfolio with relevant work samples and brief annotations.
The portfolio must be attached to the resume. An online portfolio link alone will not be accepted.
All required experience must be listed under the job or project where it was gained.
Every job or project must show dates in MMM/YYYY to MMM/YYYY format.
Candidates must be able to work from within Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building and maintaining design systems or component libraries.
Experience designing across web, mobile, and other digital devices.
Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and WCAG principles.
Experience with human-centred design and design-thinking methodologies.
Experience with Figma, Axure, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar tools.
Experience exploring multiple design concepts before selecting a final direction.
Experience delivering public-sector digital services.
Experience working within a central digital office or government digital-delivery team.
Experience collaborating closely with developers through implementation.
