Intermediate Process Engineer

The Opportunity

Our Energy subsector, a key component of WSP’s ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. From small installations to multi-phase integrated megaprojects, we support upstream, midstream, or downstream oil and gas activities and energy transition markets at all stages of the project lifecycle, anywhere in the world. We provide design, engineering and environmental services that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation, sustain the use and protection of water and marine resources, protect and restore biodiversity, and support clients as they transition to low carbon solutions. What you can expect to do

• Collaborate with different disciplines at WSP to provide expertise and client deliverables on projects. Under the guidance of a more senior process engineer, perform day-to-day activities.
• Conduct process simulations using appropriate software to optimize system performance and efficiency, modeling and predicting process behaviors with mathematical models and simulations.
• Determine appropriate equipment sizes based on process requirements and prepare data sheets detailing specifications and requirements for each piece of equipment.
• Calculate optimal process line sizes, considering flow rate, pressure drop, and temperature.
• Prepare data sheets for instruments, including specifications, operating conditions, and maintenance requirements.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and markup Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect process changes or equipment updates.
• Conduct studies to understand and improve processes, analyze data, identify bottlenecks, and propose solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Review vendor drawings to ensure they meet process requirements, including checking dimensions, materials, and design details.
• Support larger projects as needed, potentially coordinating smaller projects or acting as alliance support, and assist the Area Lead on tasks as appropriate.

What you’ll bring to WSP

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry as a process engineer, ideally with gas processing plant experience
• P.Eng license with APEGA
• Ability to work effectively in a team in an intermediate role to develop your skills
• Strong communication and report-writing skills
• Organizational skills with a focus on quality, schedule, and budget
