The Role

The Instructional Support Specialist is responsible for supporting faculty in fostering student success. This position entails offering extensive assistance to faculty members in the classroom, aiming to provide them with the resources and strategies required to address a range of student learning needs. Additionally, the Instructional Support Specialist is tasked with providing guidance and support in upholding ethical standards within the academic community.

Areas of Responsibility

Instructional Support

  • Collaborates with faculty to understand learning objectives and content requirements; provides consultation and support regarding instructional delivery methods and pedagogical approaches.
  • Supports the creation of technical resources for the delivery of online, blended and web-enhanced education.
  • Develops resources to support academic staff development involving curriculum design and delivery.
  • Coordinates and supports academic staff development by facilitating courses, workshops, consultation and observation.
  • Supports mitigating institutional risks by creating resources to engage faculty in copyright awareness.

Academic Integrity Support

  • Works with the Chairperson and Instructors to educate students on plagiarism, cheating, and other academic integrity topics and build capacity for faculty to enhance our learner’s classroom support.
  • Promote awareness and best practices to empower faculty to teach academic integrity appropriately for the course / program and confidently intervene before potential academic misconduct.
  • Develop and maintain associated educational support resources and online modules in academic integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Chairperson and Instructors to investigate instances of student academic misconduct, ensuring alignment with policy and fostering procedural fairness in addressing academic integrity matters.
  • Oversees the collection and retention of academic misconduct recommendations and investigation evidence following institutional records management policy.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of curriculum and program requirements, student-relevant policies and procedures, and supports available for students and faculty
  • Use appropriate technology, gather, review, and analyze metrics using all available data on academic integrity breaches and educational supports, and develop additional data-gathering mechanisms to enhance the understanding of incidents and the effectiveness of educational support.
  • Oversees privacy and confidentiality regarding academic integrity.
