Job description

Who we are At illumin, we are transforming the advertising landscape.

Our platform offers an integrated space for journey planning, execution, and reporting.

It empowers marketers to connect with their audiences in powerful ways through real-time data and easy-to-use visual tools.

By seamlessly combining media planning and buying in an intuitive interface, marketers can take complete control of their campaigns, meeting customers wherever they are in the buying journey and maximizing the impact of their ad spend through personalized insights for smarter decision-making.

We are at a pivotal moment, evolving into a product-led company with a team of over 100 skilled professionals and new leadership guiding our path forward.

By harnessing the power of data, advancing our AI capabilities, and deeply investing in our people, we are preparing for a future that will redefine what’s possible in journey advertising.

Our work is guided by two beliefs: that the ability to execute is paramount to success and that we are only as good as our people.

As we grow and transform, we are looking for team members (illumineers) who share our bias for speed, delivery over perfection, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Joining us now is a chance to be part of our transformation. Who we need Reporting to the Director of Product, we are looking for a Product Designer.

As our new Product Designer, you will work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to bring ideas to life through research, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.

You will play a key role in crafting intuitive and engaging user experiences that align with business goals while advocating for user needs.

From wireframing and interaction design to usability testing and iterative improvements, you will help create seamless digital experiences that delight our users and drive business impact.

This is a hybrid opportunity, working Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on-site in our downtown Toronto office.

Our headquarters are located within minutes of St.

Andrew and Union subway stations.

What's in it for you Innovation.

You want to be part of a company that values innovation and thoughtful product design, where leadership is fully committed to making design a key driver of market growth.

At illumin, we invest heavily in upfront work—prioritizing discovery, real customer testing, prototyping, and gathering insights.

We take the time to iterate and refine until we are confident that we’ve built features customers genuinely want and can use effortlessly.

Impact.

You will play a key role in a product-led company dedicated to delivering cutting-edge solutions.

We make data-driven decisions and invest in the tools, research, and processes needed to build the right things.

You will collaborate across teams, leverage insights to shape our products and contribute to meaningful innovations that enhance user experiences.

Professional development.

You want to grow—your skills, your influence, your career.

We push the limits to improve and reach our full potential, individually and as a company.

We are committed to providing everyone with the tools and knowledge they need to do their best work, whether investing in technology or augmenting the team’s skills with external training from providers like Meta Lab. How you will make an impact: Lead the end-to-end design process.

You will own the full product design lifecycle—from concept to execution—ensuring a seamless and impactful user experience.

As part of a dedicated product pod, you will collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to align design goals with business objectives.

You will play a key role in shaping the product roadmap, anticipating design needs, and ensuring that user insights drive decision-making.

Design.

You will create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs that bring ideas to life.

You will refine and enhance features through user research, usability testing, and iterative design to optimize engagement and usability.

Your work will be guided by a data-driven approach, ensuring every design decision is backed by insights and real-world user behaviour.

Maintain and evolve design standards.

You will maintain and advance our design systems and component libraries, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and scalability across all products.

As an advocate for UX/UI best practices and accessibility standards, you will champion a user-first approach that enhances inclusivity and usability.

Continuous improvement.

You will stay at the forefront of the latest design trends, tools, and technologies, continuously sharpening your skills and evolving your approach.

Whether through experimentation, learning from industry leaders, or contributing to design innovation, you will help push our team and products forward.

What you bring: The portfolio.

You have experience in product or UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio that showcases your expertise in design thinking, interaction design, and visual storytelling.

Your work demonstrates a deep understanding of user needs, balancing aesthetics with functionality.

Whether coming from AdTech, FinTech, SaaS, or another fast-paced industry, you have experience iterating quickly, making informed decisions, and taking ownership of your deliverables.

The technical skills.

You are proficient in industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite.

You understand design systems, component libraries, and responsive design principles.

Experience with front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, or JavaScript is a plus, as it helps you collaborate more effectively with engineers.

You are comfortable with user research methodologies, usability testing, and data-driven design improvements, ensuring your decisions are informed by user behaviour and insights.

The collaborative skills.

You thrive in an Agile, cross-functional environment, working closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to bring ideas to life.

You are solution-oriented, open to feedback, and able to balance multiple priorities.

You can pivot when needed, ensuring design aligns with business goals and user needs.

You actively contribute to team discussions, brainstorming sessions, and sprint planning, bringing a problem-solving mindset to every challenge.

The interpersonal skills.

You have strong verbal and written communication skills, allowing you to confidently present and defend design decisions.

You know how to ask the right questions, gather feedback, and translate insights into actionable design solutions.

You are empathetic and value diverse perspectives, creating inclusive designs that resonate with a broad audience.

Whether collaborating with leadership, advocating for users, or guiding non-design stakeholders, you know how to articulate the value of great design and align it with business outcomes.

The growth mindset.

You are curious and always looking to refine your craft.

You stay updated on emerging design trends, new tools, and evolving user behaviours.

You look for opportunities to learn from peers, and industry leaders, as well as hands-on experiences, continuously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in product design.

Compensation At illumin, we believe compensation should be transparent, fair, and reflective of both experience and impact.

The salary range for this role is $90,000-$105,000.

Compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and the scope and complexity of the role.

We value open conversations about compensation and are happy to discuss our approach at any stage of the hiring process.

What else should you know about us? We are undergoing a transformative shift.

We are embracing change and the opportunities that come with it, empowering every illumineer to innovate, experiment, and bring forward new ideas.

Whether accessing new technology, restructuring workflows, or expanding your team, you will have full support if you can make the business case.

We are a broad and diverse team, but we all share a passion for success, a drive to do more, and a love of creating connections.

We hire for talent and commitment and provide the guidelines and guidance to elevate skills, knowledge, and abilities across all areas.

This is a place where proven methods meet bold ideas, offering opportunities to grow personally and professionally.

  • To support a healthy work-life balance, we offer a flexible work environment, a meal credit for your in-office days, and a free massage with an RMT in-house every eight weeks.

That is in addition to our comprehensive benefits, which include life, AD&D, long-term disability insurance, and coverage for prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health, and professional health services.

You will also have access to a workplace advisor, the Vitality Wellness app, and a $300 annual healthcare spending account.

Apply now If you want to seize the opportunity to impact a company and influence an industry, and you have 70% of what we are looking for, apply now.

We can't promise an interview, but we will consider your whole application. What you can expect from our interview process: A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor to discuss your interest in the role, your background, and what you are looking for in your next opportunity.

The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered interview platform.

More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.

A virtual interview with the Director of Product.

This conversation will focus on your product design experience, design process, and approach to solving complex user problems.

You will have the opportunity to discuss examples of your work, learn more about the team and culture, and explore how your experience aligns with our needs.

A take-home design exercise.

You will be asked to complete a design challenge that reflects the type of work you would encounter in the role.

This is an opportunity to demonstrate your design thinking, problem-solving approach, communication skills, and ability to balance user needs with business objectives.

An in-person collaboration session with the Director of Product, a Product Manager, and an Engineer.

You will review your design exercise, discuss your decisions and trade-offs, and participate in a collaborative conversation about how you approach cross-functional problem-solving.

This is also an opportunity for you to get to know the team, ask questions, and assess whether illumin is the right fit for you.

illumin is firmly committed to diversity within its community and welcomes applications from racialized persons/persons of colour, Indigenous People of North America and the world, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, and those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. We are committed to providing equitable opportunities in employment and to providing a workplace which is free from discrimination and harassment.

We are equally committed to providing an inclusive and accessible workplace.
