Job description
Who We Are: With a vision of a vibrant, connected community, Parkgate Society (PS) creates opportunities for people in our community to live life better. We support this vision through the development of a unique and diverse blend of accessible low-cost and no-cost programs and services, created in direct response to community needs; primarily serving children, youth, families, and seniors.
Our dedicated and welcoming staff team, along with many active volunteers, including our Board of Directors, are all committed to making Parkgate Society a welcoming and inclusive community services organization, and a place where meaningful connections and memorable experiences are created every day.
Opportunity:
We are in search of enthusiastic and energetic Summer Day Camp Leaders to help plan and lead an inclusive summer camp program for school aged children. Reporting to the Camp Supervisors and Summer Camp Coordinator, successful candidates will supervise children while ensuring their safety and well-being during a variety of different activities and field trips.

This role offers a unique opportunity to spend your summer outdoors: exploring local parks, beaches, and community spaces, while creating fun and memorable experiences with children.

Responsibilities:
The Summer Day Camp Leaders are responsible for the daily operations of the camp, including, but not limited to:
  • In collaboration with the Summer Day Camp Supervisor, plan and implement age-appropriate camp games and activities for the Summer Day Camp program.
  • Ensure the guidance of children’s behaviour that encourages positive self-concept.
  • Ensure the child’s environment is healthy and safe.
  • Ensure positive communication with children and families.
  • Perform first aid as needed.
  • Help supervise and mentor volunteers.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • A School Age Care or 20 Hour Responsible Adult training certificate.
  • A minimum of 3 months’ experience in a similar environment.
  • A current safety oriented first aid and CPR certificate (minimum 8-hour course).
  • A clear criminal record check.
Contract Details:
  • Salary Range: $21.50 per hour.
  • Employment:
  • This position works full-time (37.5 hours per week) during July and August.
  • Available Monday to Friday, for all 9 weeks of Summer Camp starting June 29, 2026.
  • Must attend one paid mandatory training and preparation session on June 20th (8:30am – 4:00pm) 2026.
  • Available to help with summer wrap up/clean up on August 31st 2026 (9:00am-4:30pm).
  • Contract date: June 29 – August 31, 2025.
  • Vacation pay as a percentage of wages will be paid out on each pay cheque.

Please note: this position is partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs, which means candidates will need to qualify according to their guidelines, which include but are not limited to:
  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be available for the duration of the job.
  • Be able to work the minimum number of hours required by the employer.
We are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming workplace. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences. All qualified applicants will receive equal employment consideration without discrimination based on race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. If you require assistance or accommodation, please contact our Human Resources department.
