As our Field Engineer, you will provide pre‑deployment, execution, and closeout support for Field Services projects. In this role, you will work under the supervision of the Field Engineering Supervisor/Manager and be assigned to Project and Site Managers depending on the project. You will collaborate closely with multiple workgroups to address technically complex issues within tight schedules and may serve as the Field Engineering Lead on larger projects. This position also involves regular interaction with customers and regulators to ensure effective communication and project success. This role involves extensive travel (up to 80%) and may include shift work and extended hours to support field projects.

Location

On‑site, 70‑80% Travel Required, Kitchener, ON

Your Day to Day as our Field Engineer

As our Field Engineer, you will play a key role throughout all phases of Field Services projects — from preparation and execution to final closeout.

Pre‑Deployment

You’ll support project planning and readiness by reviewing scopes of work, applicable CSA and ASME standards, and technical requirements. You’ll develop and review work packages, procedures, and tooling designs to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with quality and safety standards. You’ll collaborate with engineers, technicians, and trades to align on expectations, deliver technical training, and lead readiness and lessons‑learned reviews.

Execution

Once on site, you’ll serve as the primary technical contact, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with approved procedures and standards. You’ll oversee field execution by monitoring work quality, resolving technical issues, and enforcing adherence to safety and quality protocols. You’ll provide direction to trades and technicians, coordinate with stakeholders to address issues, and communicate daily progress updates and upcoming priorities to project management, customers, and regulators.

Closeout

At project completion, you’ll verify that all technical and quality documentation is complete and accurate, ensure required approvals are obtained, and capture operational experience and lessons learned for future improvement. You may also prepare technical reports summarizing project execution and outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Working toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of materials, machining, and field execution practices, including Non‑Destructive Examination applications.
  • Familiarity with nuclear codes and standards (ASME III, V, VIII, IX, N285; CSA N286, N299).
  • Skilled in preparing technical reports and communicating complex technical information clearly in English.
  • Knowledge of Human Performance and Foreign Material Exclusion practices.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into practical field procedures and provide training to engineers, technicians, and trades.
  • Proven ability to execute and provide direction on critical path activities.
  • Valid driver’s license, personal transportation, and eligibility for nuclear security clearance are required.

Security Clearance

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
