Role description:
The Gilbert Centre works closely with Charitable Gaming Ontario and Delta Bingo & Gaming in Barrie. By providing 2 volunteers per shift we receive a portion of the proceeds to invest into our programs and services. The role requires you to represent the Gilbert Centre as you greet patrons coming and going from the establishment and provide some light cleaning duties on shift.
When: Every other Monday from 1pm-3pm
Age Requirement: 18+
Other Requirements: Online training and one shadowing shift (to be scheduled with successful applicant)
Dress Code: GC polo shirt (to be provided to the successful applicant), dress pants, shoes

About the Gilbert Centre
The Gilbert Centre is a registered, not-for-profit, charitable organization that was formed in 1995 as the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County in response to the HIV epidemic in Simcoe County. Since its inception the mandate of the organization has broadened to not only support people at risk of, living with, and affected by HIV and HCV, but to also support and celebrate the lives of the 2S-LGBTQ+ communities in Simcoe County and Muskoka Region. Gilbert Centre covers a large catchment area encompassing a significant geographic territory with a mix of small and mid-sized urban environments and rural settings.
Charitable gaming at Delta Bingo & Gaming Barrie is an important fundraising activity that directly supports our programs and services. Volunteers who participate in bingo shifts help generate approximately $700 in funding per shift for the Centre, contributing to vital services in our community.
Position Summary
The Gilbert Centre is seeking volunteers to participate in our Charitable Gaming Bingo fundraising program at Delta Bingo & Gaming Barrie. Volunteers support the gaming centre by assisting staff and patrons during bingo sessions while representing the Gilbert Centre.
All volunteers must complete required training before participating. Volunteers play an important role in maintaining a welcoming environment for players while helping ensure the gaming centre operates smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
During bingo sessions, volunteers may assist with:
- Greeting customers and welcoming players as they arrive
- Helping maintain a clean and organized gaming environment
- Assisting staff with promotional activities (such as distributing ballots or supporting draws)
- Supporting general customer service and directing questions to gaming centre staff
- Helping players with locating services or products within the facility
- Assisting with light operational tasks such as collecting used cards, tidying areas, or supporting intermission activities
- Supporting food delivery to tables when indicated by centre staff
Volunteers help create a positive experience for guests while representing the Gilbert Centre and supporting our fundraising efforts.
Training Requirements
All volunteers must complete two mandatory training components before participating. Selected applicants will receive instructions on completing the required training and scheduling their first shift.
1. Online Training Module
Volunteers must complete the Charitable Gaming online training module.
2. In-Person Training at the Gaming Centre
After completing the online module, volunteers will attend a brief in-centre training and shadowing session with experienced volunteers or staff at Delta Bingo & Gaming Barrie.
Training typically takes place during a regular shift and helps volunteers become familiar with the environment, responsibilities, and procedures.
Time Commitment
- Mondays from 1:00 PM 3:00 PM
- Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes before the session and remain approximately 15 minutes after to ensure proper shift coverage.
- Total commitment per shift: approximately 2.5 hours
- Shifts are scheduled in advance based on volunteer availability and organizational needs.
Due to the nature of charitable gaming operations,shift times are fixed and cannot be adjusted.
Volunteer Expectations
Volunteers participating in charitable gaming must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Arrive on time and prepared for the full shift
- Follow the dress code and wear charity identification where required
- Maintain a professional and welcoming presence while on shift
- Follow all gaming centre policies and instructions from Delta Bingo & Gaming staff
- Refrain from participating in gaming activities while volunteering
