Registered Practical Nurse, Inpatient Mental Health

Position Information:

Registered Practical Nurses are responsible for practicing within their scope to provide safe, competent, ethical, evidenced based patient care using professional knowledge and critical thinking while meeting practice standards of the College of Nurses and the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Assesses the health status of assigned patients on the unit as outlined in the Standards of Nursing Practice.
2. Works with the patient and family/caregivers to formulate a plan of care that meets patient centered goals and objectives.
3. Advocates for patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
4. Utilizes time management skills to organize plan and provide care to patients.
5. Works collaboratively with the Director and the healthcare team to problem solve, plan, implement and evaluate unit specific improvement strategies.

Qualifications:
• Current Certificate of Competence as an R.P.N.
• Current CPR Certificate.
• Medication administration certificate
• 2-3 years’ experience in Mental Health Nursing within the past 2 years
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention course required
• Psychiatric Certificate
• Group facilitation skills
• Knowledgeable in CBT, DBT and motivational interviewing
• ASIST trained
• Satisfactory vulnerable person’s sector criminal background check.
• Internal candidates must have satisfactory attendance and performance appraisal in current position.
• Documented commitment to continuing education through inservice, staff meetings and self-motivated learning.
• Reliable and punctual
• Excellent communication and customer relation skills.
• Commitment to Patient Care & Safety and Service Excellence.

Salary Range: $37.38/hr - $38.88/hr
