Unit Summary
The Animal Resource Centre (ARC) is housed within the David Braley Research Institute on the Hamilton Health Sciences campus and plays a vital role in supporting the translation of basic research findings into clinical applications. As a dedicated research facility, ARC ensures that all research is conducted ethically, compassionately, and in full compliance with regulatory standards. The centre is committed to the highest standards of animal care and welfare, providing an essential foundation for preclinical research that advances human health.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to Manager, the Animal Health Technician - ARC, oversees all aspects of technical services and operations of animal research facilities. Support the Manager with daily operations of HHSC Animal Facility. The position is responsible for the effective coordination, maintenance of all equipment. The incumbent will support the ARC manager with all applicable institutional Policies & Guidelines, Provincial and Federal legislation and guidelines. This position will support the manager ensuring the care and management of animals, ensuring animal health and welfare are a priority while supporting animal-based research. The incumbent will assist the ARC manager in maintaining effective
communication with users of the facilities.
Schedule Work Hours
Monday - Sunday; this part-time position is on an as needed basis to provide sick, vacation and holiday coverage.
This position is temporary until June 2027.
Qualifications
1. RLAT Certification and/or Bachelor of Science Degree and/or Registered Veterinary Technician Certification preferred
2. Minimum one year previous experience working with laboratory animals
3. Previous experience working with wash area equipment, washer, autoclaves
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently
5. Demonstrated excellent communication and problem-solving skills
6. Demonstrated ability to work in a flexible research environment
