Job Description

This role is responsible for maintaining and improving equipment in a fast-paced veneer drying facility where veneer sheets move through conveyors, dryers, are stacked, graded, and prepared for shipment. As part of the Maintenance Team, you will support safe, reliable, and efficient production while driving continuous improvement to maximize output and product quality. The position requires a hands-on, flexible approach to maintenance tasks that may extend beyond traditional millwright duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair on industrial manufacturing equipment, including dryers, conveyors, gearboxes, motors, and pneumatic systems, to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and work closely alongside the production team to minimize downtime, adopting a proactive, hands-on approach rather than a "call us if you need us" mentality.
• Conduct preventative and planned maintenance activities to reduce the frequency and impact of unplanned failures.
• Inspect, adjust, and replace mechanical components such as belts and other wear parts as needed.
• Focus a significant portion of time on maintaining and repairing multiple veneer dryers, addressing issues that may arise approximately once per week.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and other industrial systems to diagnose root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Support a variety of maintenance tasks that may not always be specific to the millwright trade, including general facility upkeep such as sweeping floors or assisting other mechanical work as needed.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance colleagues as an integrated team to improve equipment performance and overall plant efficiency.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at maximizing production throughput and product quality.
• Use personal tools and equipment in accordance with safety and maintenance standards.
• Work overtime and occasional weekends when required to support production needs and complete critical maintenance tasks.

Essential Skills

• Certified Millwright qualification (must be certified).
• 5–10 years of experience working as a Millwright.
• 5–10 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing facility.
• Proven experience maintaining industrial equipment such as dryers, conveyors, gearboxes, motors, and pneumatic systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to perform maintenance repair tasks safely and efficiently in a busy, fast-paced facility.
• Ownership of a complete set of personal tools suitable for millwright and industrial maintenance work.
• Ability to work effectively in both team-based and individual work settings.
• Good English communication skills to coordinate with colleagues and understand work instructions.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime and occasional weekend shifts when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Welding experience is a strong asset.
• Hydraulic system experience is an asset.
• Pneumatic system experience is an asset.
• Forklift certification (SDCB) is an asset.
• Experience operating or working with aerial lift equipment such as Genie lifts is beneficial.
• Comfort working in a multicultural team environment.
• Stable work history without frequent short-term moves between employers.

Work Environment

This role is based in a busy, fast-paced veneer drying facility with loud, continuously running machinery and a dusty atmosphere. You will work primarily on a day shift, Monday to Friday from approximately 6:30 . to 3:00 ., with the expectation of flexibility to move into schedules such as 4x10 or possibly 4x12 shifts, all on morning schedules. Overtime and some weekend work may be required to support production and maintenance needs, and statutory holidays are generally worked unless booked off in advance, with Christmas as the primary shutdown day. The total team size is around 110 employees including production, with a dedicated maintenance team of about 19 people who are experienced, cooperative, and work very well together. The environment is multicultural and inclusive, and you will be expected to be comfortable working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to work safely in this loud and dusty manufacturing setting.

The pay range for this position is $54.17 - $54.17/hr.
