URGENT: Elder Care Provider

Job Title: Private Companion / Rehab Support for Stroke Recovery (Kamloops) Location: Kamloops, BC (In-facility at Pine Grove Care Centre) Schedule: 2 to 3 days per week (Flexible days/hours; approximately 1.5 to 2 hours per visit, daytime) Pay Rate: $35.00 per hour (Commensurate with experience/training) About the Role: We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and patient independent caregiver to provide regular companionship and targeted communication support for my father. He is a resident at Pine Grove Care Centre in Kamloops. He has dementia and has recently had a stroke. Because our family lives out of town, we want to hire a dedicated professional to visit him at least 2 days a week to help prevent social isolation and actively support his cognitive and speech recovery through patient communication. Key Responsibilities: • Communication & Speech Support: Engage him in focused, patient conversation. Practice basic vocal, speech, or cognitive exercises (we plan to coordinate with a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide a simple framework/homework plan). • Social Connection: Read the news together, look at photos, listen to music, or play simple cognitive games. • Mobility / Outings: Help him move down to the facility lounge, library, or secure outdoor courtyard for a change of scenery and quiet space to talk (physical care and transfers are handled by facility staff). • Family Updates: Provide a brief, text-based summary to the family after each visit to let us know how he is doing. Requirements: • Proven experience working with seniors, ideally with stroke, aphasia, or brain injury recovery. • Background as a Therapy Assistant (RA/OTA/PTA), Health Care Assistant (HCA), or speech sciences student is a major asset. • Ability to provide a clear BC Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector). • Up-to-date TB test results and required vaccinations (as mandated by the care facility). • Excellent communication skills, patience, and a warm demeanor. *Not necessary, but if you play the guitar at all, let us know.
