Job description
Position Summary
Are you a Licensing Officer looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Public Health Protection department.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, and as an integral member of the team delivering Public Health services, the Licensing Officer provides service delivery within the framework of the public health/health protection model. This position monitors licensed care facilities to ensure that persons in care are safe, their health is being promoted, and their dignity is maintained. The Licensing Officer collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, health care professionals, and other health authority staff and stakeholders to achieve excellence in licensed child and residential care. They promote quality and continuous improvement and support the goals of Northern Health and Health Protection. The Licensing Officer is responsible for assessing risk to the health and safety of children, youth, and adults in care pursuant to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, the Child Care Licensing Regulation, and the Residential Care Regulations.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00

Qualfications
•A university degree or diploma in a related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid BC Driver’s License.

Skills and Abilities:
• Teaching: Transmits information effectively to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
• Critical Thinking: Evaluates and integrates pertinent data (from multiple sources) to solve problems, make decisions and draw appropriate conclusions.
• Communication: Communicates effectively with clients, families, the public, and the members of the interdisciplinary team using oral, written, and computer communication means.
• Leadership: Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness, and risk-taking; plans creatively for change and innovation, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing development.
• Knowledge Integration: Integrates best practice, current research, facts, and experience to support practice decisions and actions.
• Management: Organizes work, sets objectives, and establishes priorities; manages time and resources, implements activities to promote cooperation and collaboration among the interdisciplinary team.
• Teamwork: Fosters teamwork and a commitment to excellence in service delivery.
• Professional Practice: Applies the principles and practices of quality assurance and continuous improvement to support and enable clients to deliver quality service; promotes client-focused care that is sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, and incorporates client advocacy and social justice concerns.
• Ability to operate related equipment, computers and relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
