Overview
Transportation Planner / Traffic Engineer to join the Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering team at GHD.
The Transportation group within GHD Canada works with provincial, regional, and local municipal transportation agencies on large-scale projects across highways, roads and bridges, transit infrastructure, transportation planning, and roundabouts. Our team provides integrated transportation services throughout the project lifecycle from policy, transportation economics, and business case advice through concept, Environmental Assessment, detailed design, and construction administration.
Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will involve the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of junior staff
- Coordinate work from different disciplines (municipal, structural, technical support staff, etc.)
- Develop client relationships and new business opportunities
- Prepare technical memos and reports
- Prepare proposals and strategic capture plans
- Prepare needs assessments for road facilities and transit services
- Undertake research and analysis of land use, demographics, and travel data
- Resolve requirements and broader transportation impact for developments and projected land uses
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of travel forecasts
- Develop and assess alternative road improvements
- Develop preliminary road and active transportation concept designs and conduct concept design evaluation
- Incorporate transit, pedestrian, transportation demand management strategies, and active transportation into studies
- Provide traffic engineering / transportation planning services for Environmental Assessments, and roadway projects at various stages
- Review and develop policy for transportation
- Develop recommendations for transit service and transit access
- Perform intersection operations analysis
- Perform microsimulation analysis
- Develop and execute evaluation frameworks and business case analysis for implementation of transportation infrastructure
Qualifications
A degree in Civil Engineering or urban planning with at least 7 years of experience in transportationLicensed Professional Engineer, Registered Professional Planner, or Engineer-in-training / Planning Candidate in OntarioSolid understanding of relevant transportation planning and traffic engineering policies and design standards in OntarioExperience with safety audits and collision analysisExperience in urban designExperience with AutoCAD or GIS is an assetExperience with Synchro, Sidra, Vissim, and / or other traffic softwareExperience with Adobe / Creative Suite is an assetProficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPointStrong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written)Excellent report and proposal writing skillsPositive attitude and good communication and interpersonal skillsPerforms well independently as well as in a team environmentAs a diverse and inclusive organization, we encourage individual achievement and recognize the strength of a diverse workforce.
