Fisheries and Oceans Canada is the federal lead for safeguarding our waters and managing Canada's fisheries, oceans and freshwater resources. Within the Science branch of DFO, Physical Scientist usually work within one of two streams. The first involves computer programming or scripting languages for data processing and analysis as well as for data management. The second involves the monitoring, modelling and science data analysis of our oceans as well as our coastal and nearshore waters such as estuaries and bays.

APPLICATION / ASSESSMENT PROCESS
Step 1 : Application
When applying to this selection process, you will be required to provide an updated resume and asked to provide an example of when you’ve demonstrated the essential experience that DFO is looking for.
Step 2 : Other Asset Qualifications
Following the initial screening, candidates will receive a document with a list of other asset requirements. They will be required to identify the assets they have and return the document in a timely manner.

As positions become available, the hiring manager will establish the other assets requirements candidate would need in order to be successful in the role.
Upon identifying the requirements for a given position, we will review the responses to the other assets questions. If experience conditions met what the hiring manager is looking for, we will contact you to :

Candidates invited to an interview will be required to bring proof of their education credentials, in the form of a diploma or official transcript. Step 6 : Appointment
If the hiring manager has determined that you meet the requirements for the position, you will receive an official notification from Human Resources. Should you be selected for the position, the hiring manager will contact you directly. You will be required to meet any conditions of employment for the position, such as a valid security clearance which will be reflected in your employment letter of offer.
APPLICATION EXPIRY PERIOD
Applications to this selection process will expire every 150 days from date of submission. If your application is expired, you will not be referred to future vacancies. You will automatically receive an e-mail when the warning period date is reached (125 days) and a notice will be placed on your GC Jobs account. The expiry and renewal dates displayed in the notice are adjusted daily until the warning period is over.
