Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Division Director, the Science Technician I will:
- Maintains lab equipment; assesses functionality, carries out minor repairs and determines when equipment needs to be professionally repaired
- Maintains the student laboratory manuals for each laboratory course and collaborates with faculty to continually amend/update/improve from year to year
- Coordinates equipment and computer lending for student use
- Instructs students and lab demonstrators on safety and emergency procedures when using lab tools and equipment and ensures lab users adhere to safety policies and procedures
- Maintains all safety-related records, including results of safety tests and Incident Reports
- Carries out equipment and material acquisition under the supervision of individual faculty members
- Provide assistance in preparation and use of the Engineering demonstrations for outreach activities (including on-and off-site, high school presentations and workshops, university open house events, and other community presentations)

Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful Science Technician I you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (B.Eng.) (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or related fields); higher degrees and equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Minimum of 2 years related experience in an engineering laboratory environment
- Experience working with power and hand tools
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills; accuracy and attention to detail
- Programming Experience
- Computer proficiency with CAD modelling
- Experience in safety procedures and be familiar with Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations an asset
- Experience with electronics and robotics an asset
