Job Title: Industrial ElectricianJob DescriptionThis role focuses on maintaining and improving electrical systems in a high-volume veneer manufacturing facility, where sheet material moves through conveyors, dryers, stacking, grading, and shipping processes. You will play a key role in keeping production running safely and efficiently by performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and programming on industrial electrical equipment and control systems, while also mentoring junior apprentices and contributing to long-term projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement of industrial electrical equipment, including changing motors and installing frequency drives.
- Design, modify, and update electrical circuits to support production requirements and improve system reliability.
- Work with electrical systems up to 600 volts, following all safety procedures and standards.
- Lead programming and troubleshooting activities for mill control systems and production lines, spending approximately 60% of your time on these tasks.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and control issues quickly to minimize downtime in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Work extensively with PLCs and VFDs, including configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with a strong focus on Allen-Bradley platforms.
- Collaborate closely with production and maintenance teams to plan, organize, and execute electrical projects and upgrades.
- Mentor and guide two junior apprentices, providing hands-on training, coaching, and support to help them develop their skills.
- Document work performed, including maintenance activities, changes to circuits, and control program updates, in a clear and organized manner.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance, reliability, and safety across the facility.
- Support occasional weekend and overtime work as required to complete critical maintenance or project work.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to coordinate work and ensure smooth operations.
Essential Skills- At least 5+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Red Seal Industrial Electrician certification or equivalent journeyperson-level industrial electrical qualification.
- Strong experience working with PLCs and VFDs in an industrial setting.
- Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, including programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and control issues under time pressure.
- Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems up to 600 volts, including safe work practices.
- Demonstrated experience with PLC control, PLC maintenance, and PLC troubleshooting.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical and analytical approach to diagnosing faults.
- Clear and effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience in sawmill or wood products operations.
- Experience with FactoryTalk View development or similar HMI/SCADA systems.
- Understanding of TCP/IP stack and industrial networking concepts.
- Ability to provide documentation or portfolio of previous electrical and control work.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working alongside mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with a consistent track record of attendance and performance.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment and contribute positively to team culture.

Work Environment
The facility operates as a busy, fast-paced veneer manufacturing plant where machines run continuously throughout the day. The environment is loud due to ongoing production, and the work area can be dusty, reflecting the nature of wood and veneer processing. You will be part of a well-established, multicultural team of approximately 110 employees overall, with a maintenance team of about 19 people who work closely together and maintain a strong, cooperative culture. The role follows a day shift schedule from Monday to Friday, typically 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with flexibility required for overtime and occasional weekend work as operational needs arise. Christmas is the only scheduled shutdown, and other time off is managed through advance booking. You will work with modern industrial electrical equipment, PLCs (including Allen-Bradley systems), VFDs, and related control and automation technologies in a hands-on, production-focused setting.
