Service Nova Scotia supports the public sector as it delivers programs and services that Nova Scotians rely on. We deliver services to government and beyond by processing a million financial transactions each year, auditing government operations, optimizing information and technology, managing major purchases for the public sector and helping public bodies administer the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act and the Records Act.

We are well-positioned to meet our goals so that other departments can focus on delivering important programs for Nova Scotians.

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Senior Accounting Clerk to join our Transactional Services team. Reporting to the Coordinator, Operational Accounting, the Senior Accounting Clerk plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of Accounts Payable transactions for the province.

As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance and support to staff on accounts payable processes, systems, and policies while helping to ensure service excellence for both internal and external clients. You will support staff development through training and mentoring, assist with complex transaction issues, and act as a resource for escalated client concerns.

Qualifications and Experience

To fulfill the expectations of this role, you have 5 years of related experience in a financial administration environment; or an acceptable equivalent of training and related experience. A post-secondary degree with a focus in accounting/finance or actively working towards a professional accounting designation would be considered assets.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following:

  • Experience in accounts payable processing, financial administration, or a related accounting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial processes, policies, and controls along with strong analytical and decision making skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands and perform effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess:

  • Experience using the Government's corporate financial management system (SAP), particularly Accounts Payable (AP) and Travel Expenses (TE) modules.
  • Knowledge of Government financial processes and policies.
  • Experience working in a public sector or large enterprise financial environment.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference.

Equivalency

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
