West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Transit Mechanic Apprentice. This is mechanical work at the apprentice level. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for : performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.
The successful candidate will possess or have the ability to obtain and retain :
Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of one year of relevant experience demonstrated by completion of Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates currently in their 4th apprenticeship may be considered. Red Seal qualification as an Automotive Service Technician is an asset.
