Vice President of Finance
Manufacturing Sector | Ottawa, ON | Hybrid
Due to an internal promotion, our client in the manufacturing sector is seeking an accomplished Vice President of Finance to join its senior leadership team in Ottawa.
This is a high-impact leadership role for a CPA-designated finance executive with deep experience in manufacturing and defence environments. The Vice President of Finance will serve as a strategic business partner to the local General Manager and work closely with the Corporate CFO in the U.S. to help drive financial performance, operational discipline, and long-term growth.
The successful candidate will lead the financial direction of the Ottawa operation, combining strategic planning with hands-on oversight of financial reporting, forecasting, controls, and performance analysis. This leader will play a critical role in strengthening financial governance, supporting commercial and operational decision-making, and advancing initiatives that improve profitability, cash flow, and enterprise value.
Key Qualifications
- CPA designation required
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally within manufacturing and defence
- Strong expertise in standard costing, pricing, and business case analysis
- Proven experience strengthening internal controls and financial governance
- Background working in large, complex organizations
- Demonstrated success as an effective people leader
- University degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related discipline; MBA considered an asset
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior finance partner to the General Manager and leadership team, providing insight to inform strategy, planning, and decision-making
- Lead the annual budget process, rolling forecasts, long-range planning, and regular financial performance reviews
- Evaluate pricing strategies, customer proposals, contract changes, and capital investments with a focus on margin, risk, and cash flow
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for local and corporate stakeholders
- Maintain strong accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance with audit and corporate governance requirements
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, receivables, payables, and treasury-related activities in partnership with corporate finance
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, engineering, sales, and program management to improve cost performance and operational efficiency
- Develop scenario models and decision-support analysis for strategic and commercial initiatives
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while supporting broader transformation and process improvement initiatives
Candidate Profile
- At least 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including significant leadership responsibility
- Strong background in financial planning, reporting, forecasting, and controls in a complex business setting
- Demonstrated ability to assess commercial decisions through financial analysis and scenario modeling
- Experience supporting audits, compliance, and governance frameworks
- Proficiency with financial systems, reporting tools, and budgeting platforms
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across the business
Work Arrangement & Compensation
This is a hybrid opportunity requiring a minimum of 4 days on site in Ottawa.
Compensation: $180,000–$220,000, plus bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
