Job Summary
This role sits within a data migration project at a leading financial institution, focusing on the technical aspects of migrating dashboards, workloads, and scripts from a current analytical environment. The contractor will be responsible for leading technical aspects of the project from inception through to deployment, participating in analysis and system design specification sessions, and producing documentation of design options and solutions according to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology. The position is a hybrid technical profile not a pure data engineer or pure BI developer requiring the ability to work across both PySpark/Databricks code and Tableau/Power BI dashboards. The current project scope encompasses 300 dashboards plus numerous scripts and use cases, with the primary migration path running from Synapse/current analytical environment to Unity Catalog and from Tableau to Power BI. Migration strategy and tools are already defined; candidates are not expected to design the migration strategy. Initially, the work will be primarily migration; new dashboard development may come later. The contractor will have access to customer data and is expected to interact primarily within an internal-only environment with minimal meeting time (maximum 2.5 hours per week, only if needed).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical aspects of the data migration project from inception through to deployment.
- Participate in analysis and system design specification sessions.

- Analyze large data sets, draw insights and inferences, and communicate outputs.
- Read and comprehend data schemas, metadata, entity relationship diagrams, and other technical documentation, as well as write documentation.
- Work across both PySpark/Databricks code and Tableau/Power BI dashboards within the same use case, rather than simply executing a migration mechanically.
- Migrate dashboards and workloads from Synapse/current analytical environment to Unity Catalog.
- Migrate Tableau and Power BI dashboards as part of the current migration scope.
- Contribute to performance measurement targets including percentage of dashboards/workloads migrated vs. total inventory, query/runtime improvements post-migration, percentage of new reports created, and percentage of Synapse-dependent workloads eliminated.

- Demonstrated experience on data migration projects.
- Experience with Azure Cloud environments (7 years).
- Experience analyzing large data sets (7 years).
