Senior Estimator

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Estimator on behalf of a growing and entrepreneurial general contractor operating across Western Canada. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned estimator who thrives in a design-build environment and is looking to take ownership of the estimating function within a collaborative, high-impact team.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership-oriented role where you will not only deliver estimates but also help build, optimize, and scale pre-construction processes. You will work closely with senior leadership, business development, and project teams, playing a key role in shaping project strategy, cost planning, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction & Estimating Leadership

• Lead the preparation of conceptual design-build and lump sum estimates across a diverse range of commercial and industrial projects
• Review drawings and specifications to define scope, general conditions, and complete estimate requirements
• Develop detailed budgets from early-stage or incomplete design documents
• Lead quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and pricing using estimating software and internal tools
• Prepare and manage tender packages, including trade solicitation and subcontractor pricing review
• Deliver complete estimate handover packages to project management teams

Client & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Participate in client meetings to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives
• Collaborate with consultants and design teams to ensure alignment between scope, design intent, and budget
• Support business development efforts through proposal preparation and client-facing estimating input
• Provide constructability input and value engineering recommendations throughout pre-construction

Process Development & Optimization

• Establish and continuously improve in-house estimating systems, tools, and workflows
• Contribute to database development, cost benchmarking, and process automation initiatives
• Support scheduling development at the pre-construction stage to validate timelines and delivery strategies

Qualifications & Experience

• 8–10+ years of estimating experience within a General Contractor environment
• Proven experience in design-build project delivery is required
• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
• Demonstrated ability to develop budgets, schedules, and cost plans from conceptual design stages
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, including Procore (required)
• Experience with pre-engineered building systems is considered an asset
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and strong technical/computer proficiency
