Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include locations in St. John’s, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.
Steele Hotels is looking for a seasonal full-time Cook to join our growing team at Sinbad’s Hotel & Suites in Gander, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive “can-do” attitude, a high level of professionalism, a strong work ethic, and will assist in menu preparation, cooking all menu items, baking, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring a quality clean kitchen environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assist in creating new menus, taking into account food costing and seasonal food availability
• Prepare and cook all menu items and features
• Proper portioning/cutting of meats
• Ensure all food service standards and quality requirements are met
• Receive and verify product matches original orders
• Prepare and maintain a stock of all menu items
• Ensure adequate inventory levels and communicate discrepancies to the Executive Chef
• Adhere to health and safety regulations
• Ensure the kitchen is kept clean, sanitized, and tidy, following all health and safety regulations
• Ensure operations level of profitability and client satisfaction is complied
• Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
• Cooking certification/diploma is an asset
• Canadian Red Seal Occupational Standard is an asset
• Food Safety Course is an asset
• Experienced in food costing, menu execution, inventory control an asset
• Experience working with large banquets
• Knowledge of all cuts of meat
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work with and without supervision
• Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
