Job description

Custodians (Full-Time and Part-Time) Calgary Girls Charter School (CGCS) is currently seeking qualified applicants for one full-time and one part-time Custodians to support the operations of our charter school authority. The Custodians play a critical role in maintaining all facilities of Calgary Girls Charter School. This posting is to assess future potential opportunities. Reporting Structure The Custodians report directly to the Facility Manager. Locations The Custodians are responsible for two locations. Lakeview Campus located at 6304 Larkspur Way SW, and board office located at 7239 Flint Road SE, Unit E. Key Responsibilities: The Custodians play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of the Calgary Girls Charter School. This includes classrooms, a gymnasium, washrooms, library and public spaces. This role also provides custodial support for a secondary location and outdoor park spaces within the community. This position is responsible for cleaning, restocking supplies, and reporting maintenance issues. Custodial & Facility Cleanliness Cleaning & Sanitation Clean and sanitize washrooms, classrooms, gymnasium, hallways, and public areas. Maintain high-touch surfaces to ensure hygiene and safety compliance. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and deep clean floors as required. Clean glass doors, windows, and mirrors to maintain facility appearance. Restock washroom supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels. Sanitize and clean staff areas, including kitchen and break spaces. Facility Maintenance & Outdoor Upkeep Empty garbage and recycling bins daily. Litter pick up in the parking lot and outdoor park areas. Report maintenance concerns such as plumbing issues, broken fixtures, or facility damages to the Facilities Manager. Monitor and maintain janitorial supply inventory, ensuring timely restocking. Winter time shovelling and sidewalk salting. Safety & Compliance Identify and report safety hazards such as spills, trip hazards, and malfunctioning equipment. Follow workplace safety protocols and proper cleaning procedures. Assist in emergency cleaning situations (e.g., spills, accidents). Ensure proper waste disposal protocols, including biohazard waste handling if required. Other Duties Provide excellent customer service by assisting staff, students, parents, and facility users when needed. Participate in team meetings and training as required. Act in accordance with CGCS policies, safety guidelines, and provincial workplace regulations. Perform any additional tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager. Ensure all maintenance tools and cleaning equipment are regularly inspected, cleaned, and kept in good working order. Qualifications & Requirements: Minimum 1 year of experience in janitorial, cleaning, or facility maintenance roles. Ability to work independently and take initiative in completing tasks. Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, perform bending, standing, and repetitive tasks. Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently. Reliable, hardworking, and adaptable to changing priorities. Comfortable using cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor scrubbers). High School Diploma or equivalent.Understanding of workplace safety procedures and building codesStrong communication skills, both verbal and writtenHave, or be willing to obtain certifications related to WHMIS, OH&S, First Aid/CPRHave, or be willing to obtain a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector checkAbility to be bondedWorking Conditions: Indoor & outdoor work in all weather conditions. Afternoon, weekend and evening shifts may be required. Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of heavy objects. Interaction with students, vendors, and staff.
