Hello! We are a welcoming single-parent family looking for a warm, reliable, and experienced caregiver for our 9-year-old daughter in Abbotsford, BC. This role comes with a unique opportunity: a beautifully appointed, self-contained suite on our property available to rent at well below market rate. We are a warm, respectful single-parent family. Mom works a demanding schedule that sometimes includes evenings and overnight shifts, so we are looking for someone dependable who can help provide stability and care for our daughter during those times. Our daughter is a bright, creative nine-year-old who does best with warmth, routine, and a steady presence. A gentle, patient approach and experience supporting children's emotional well-being would be highly valued. About the role: We are looking for approximately 100 hours/month, paid at $19.00/hour under a written employment agreement. Hours include a mix of weekday afternoons — primarily after-school pickup and supervision — some weekend daytime coverage, and occasional overnights (rarely more than 4 nights per month), with the schedule varying somewhat month to month depending on mom's work. Typical responsibilities include: - After-school pickup and supervision a few times weekly - Homework support and activities - Weekly school and summer camp drop-offs and pickups, including participation in a carpool schedule - Spending time together after school and helping create a calm, positive evening routine - Meal and snack preparation - Occasional accompaniment to activities, parks, or outings - Light tidying related to the child and shared spaces - Providing a consistent, calm and caring presence - Occasional overnight coverage as needed Because this is a part-time position built around a schedule that changes month to month, we are equally committed to working with the right person's availability. If you are a student, have coursework, or work another part-time job, we are open to scheduling around your commitments where possible! Good communication and a bit of advance planning go a long way — and we are happy to make this arrangement work well for both sides. Ideal candidate should have: - Previous childcare experience with school-age children — references required - A reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's licence, and clean driving record — firm requirement, as the role includes regular carpool duties - Valid First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before starting - Comfortable with occasional overnight care - Patient, warm, and genuinely enjoys being around children - Independent, tidy, and respectful of shared living spaces - Non-smoking / non-vaping and drug-free - Emotionally mature and looking for a stable, long-term arrangement We are ideally looking for someone who can commit to: - Minimum 3–6 months to start - One year or longer strongly preferred Let me tell you a bit about the suite! :) It is fully furnished and self-contained, with its own private entrance. It includes: - Private bedroom Large living room - Full bathroom Full kitchen and dining area - In-suite laundry Dishwasher Air conditioning - Furnishings include a television with streaming services included - Dishware and household essentials provided - Wi-Fi and utilities included - Free parking in the driveway or on the street! The home is located in a beautiful, quiet neighbourhood with walking trails throughout the area and a spacious backyard to enjoy. And it is a five minutes from a great shopping mall and other services! Available to rent at $800/month under a separate lease agreement (market value approximately $2,000/month!).
