Technologist

Overview

Participate within a team of technologists in the field at customer sites as a technical specialist. You will plan, perform and document field and laboratory electrical testing activities including low voltage and medium voltage diagnostic and assessment testing of power system equipment such as underground cables, power transformers, MV and HV switchgear in accordance with established technical work instructions and industry standards. Prepare progress reports and other standard reports such as routine test reports and equipment packing/shipping reports. Perform inventory and maintenance duties. Assist in product/service development, respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems generally of a routine nature. The assignment is within the Electrical Safety Testing (EST) Department.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

• Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
• Perform and document field and laboratory MV / LV electrical tests, investigations and technical studies for customers in electrical generation, transmission and distribution sector. Support of other sectors such as chemical, civil, mechanical, metallurgical, computer science, material science, environmental science, biology, etc.
• Perform field and lab tests using predominantly standard techniques; provide support in laboratory or field environments by conducting experiments, conducting tests or servicing equipment; quality control.
• Assist with field commissioning and acceptance testing of electrical power equipment including cables and switchgear
• Assist with and sometimes assemble and maintain equipment, processes, systems and development of test methods
• Participate in the analysis of test results and data by use of standard software packages
• Write reports of a predominantly routine nature.
• Respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations and solve problems.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of the work performed.
• Perform clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, faxing and photocopying.
• Perform routine processes and duties such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, etc.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Need to Succeed

• Completion of High School plus additional specialized courses related to Electrical Technology at the community college level. A degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is a plus.
• 3 - 5 years relevant experience or equivalent advanced education in related areas. Requires knowledge of electrical theory and testing standards to understand the requirements for MV and HV testing of electrical equipment.
• Requires experience with MV and HV testing practices, procedures and safety standards.
• Ability to utilize computer software programs for data management, etc.
• Real life grasp of finance and business practices.
• Critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
• Be able to work in challenging conditions.
• Strong teamwork and lead and follow capabilities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation
• Willingness to travel to client location to perform field testing.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
