Mechanical Engineer (HVAC & Fire Protection)

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (HVAC & Fire Protection) to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a background in HVAC and fire protection systems to contribute to the design, planning, and delivery of critical infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will support engineering activities across multiple projects while working closely with multidisciplinary teams and participating in both office and field assignments.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs and technical solutions for low- to medium-complexity infrastructure projects.

• Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and technical documentation.

• Review engineering drawings and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.

• Support project planning, estimating, scheduling, and engineering coordination activities.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated project solutions.

• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and field activities.

• Participate in periodic site visits to support project execution and resolve engineering issues.

• Contribute to maintaining engineering quality, safety, and technical standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with Engineers & Geoscientists BC.

• Access to a Permit to Practice (or through your firm).

• Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering experience.

• Experience with HVAC and Fire Protection codes and standards.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.

• Strong organizational, relationship management, and time management skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with diesel generator systems.

• Experience using Revit and/or Inventor.

• Experience supporting utility, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

• Field experience supporting construction or commissioning activities.

Work Environment

• Hybrid position based in Burnaby, BC.

• Required to work onsite three days per week during the first three months, with the potential to reduce to two days per week thereafter.

• Travel throughout British Columbia for field and site visits approximately once every two months.

• Must be comfortable traveling to remote locations, including travel via small aircraft and regional airports when required.
