Occupational Therapist

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). A minimum of two (2) years' recent experience in a mental health setting working with children and adolescents.

Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of developmental issues and theories related to mental illness for the client population.
• Broad knowledge of COTBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practice
• Demonstrated clinical competency in the field of occupational therapy and broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Familiar with evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area(s)
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of occupational therapy in family-centered approach to care.
• Basic knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and work with children, adolescents and families of advanced complexity.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and empower children, youth, their families, and other professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to organize time and responsibilities and to work independently.
• Demonstrated ability to adjust to the unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict.
• Demonstrated/referenced interpersonal and collaborative team skills.
• Working knowledge of relevant legislature applicable- i.e. The Mental Health Act, Hospital Act.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
