Job description

Position Overview :

Provides specialized fitness classes and instruction to participants in yoga, meditation, and nia.

Responsibilities :

  • Delivers specialized fitness classes following required standards in yoga, meditation, and nia.
  • Demonstrates and instructs specialized fitness classes; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; provides feedback to participants. Modifies programs as needed to ensure inclusion of all participants.
  • Prepares appropriate music, equipment, and supplies.
  • Completes room set-ups as required including lifting and moving mats, chairs, or any other program equipment.
  • Monitors program participants and ensures safe practices.
  • Integrates inclusion staff, private support workers, and volunteers into programs.
  • Completes records and reports including program attendance and accident reports.
  • Ensures safe use, condition, and storage of equipment.
  • Distributes applicable forms and program information (., course evaluation forms, general information, brochures).
  • Adheres to policies and procedures established for City of Kitchener facilities.
  • Reviews emergency procedures with participants; follows established procedures during emergencies.
  • Responds to participants immediate concerns and / or needs and provides customer service.
  • Acts as a liaison between the community centre and participants.
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Grade 12 Diploma.
  • Certified instructor in Yoga, meditation, or nia.
  • 6 months of related experience in a specific fitness program.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment (applicable to instructors of children and youth programs).
  • Valid CPR Level “C” and Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
