Min : $134,660, Control : $179,546, Max : $206,478. Placement within a salary band is typically up to Control Point based upon a review of skills, experience & internal equity. The College may place over Control point in limited circumstances.

WHAT IT TAKES
THE ROLE :
Reporting to the Vice President, Academic and Provost, the Dean, Faculty of Applied Community Studies provides academic and strategic leadership to the Faculty and is responsible for planning, developing, promoting, and evaluating the effectiveness of the Faculty's academic and continuing professional education programs. As a senior member of the Academic Division, the Dean works closely with the Vice President, Academic and Provost to further the initiatives in the College's Strategic Plan and with the Faculty to develop and implement initiatives in accordance with the Faculty's operational plans. The Dean plays an instrumental role in fostering a supportive environment for both faculty and staff to maintain the highest quality of service for students, encourage superior standards of course instruction and promote excellence in academic scholarship.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Major Responsibilities
Champion a student-focused culture across the Faculty and College, in alignment with the broader institutional mission, goals, values, and strategic objectivesFoster a culture of academic integrity across the Faculty and College, in collaboration with faculty, students, administrators, and staffEngage and advance the College's commitment to decolonization and advance the College's Indigenization Strategy and goalsLead and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion across the Faculty and CollegeFoster and grow existing and new opportunities and partnershipsRecognize and support the diversity of programming and disciplines within the Faculty and facilitate the development of innovative programs, research, and applied learningLead, partner and / or participate in Faculty and College-wide initiatives and committeesLeadership
Identify and lead the development of educational and research opportunities for the FacultyRepresent the Faculty and College and their interests before government agencies, other institutions, and other organizationsRecognize and address the diverse needs of students, faculty and staff Academic Programming, Research and TeachingSupport diversity and inclusion efforts and the creation of a culturally responsive learning environmentOversee the ongoing review and updating of existing curriculum as well as the planning, development, and implementation of new curriculumEnsure the quality and integrity of programs in the Faculty and the College's reputation in the related fields of studyEnsure new and continued accreditation of programs in the Faculty Student Services, Experience & RecruitmentPromote the use of educational technology and blended learning to enhance pedagogical methods that support a diversity of learnersSupport and participate in student recruitment, enrolment, and engagement opportunitiesFacilitate initiatives in support of internationalization at the College Management and AdministrationDevelop, implement, and monitor Faculty operational plans in accordance with the College's Strategic Plan and governance requirementsOversee Faculty budgeting, resource allocation, and financial management, consistent with College policies, procedures, and guidelinesInterpret and administer College policies and procedures, including contractual obligations and collective agreementsWork with the Associate Dean, Coordinators, and program staff to monitor enrolments and ensure student and program success.Manage the process of evaluation for probationary and post-probationary facultyDevelop, review, and communicate Faculty procedures Faculty and Staff RelationsCultivate an environment of transparency, consultation, and collaboration as key values of the FacultyLead and manage in a unionized environmentOversee the provision of professional development activities Internal and External RelationsPromote the Faculty to the broader local and international communityCollaborate with service areas to promote programs to current and prospective studentsCommunicate with internal and external stakeholdersDevelop and cultivate relationships with other post-secondary institutions, accrediting bodies, external agencies, and Program Advisory Committees.Participate in relevant provincial, national, and international organizationsRepresent the Faculty on various committees and institutional initiativesRepresent the Office of the Vice President, Academic and Provost, as required TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED :MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Established professional and academic credibility as usually evidenced by a graduate degree (Doctoral preferred) in a relevant field or discipline represented within the FacultyQualified to teach in at least one discipline relevant to the FacultyA minimum of five years of leadership experience in an academic administrative position in a unionized post-secondary institution or other relevant organizationKnowledge of the teaching environment as usually evidenced by having taught at a post-secondary level or equivalent combination of teaching and administrative experienceWork experience as a practitioner in the human service sector is an assetExperience with online or blended learning strategies is an assetAn equivalent and / or related combination of education and experience may be considered EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTSA demonstrated record of scholarly activity and the ability to support research and scholarly activities within the FacultyA commitment to student-centered post-secondary educationThe ability to lead the development and implementation of strategic and operational prioritiesThe ability to lead within a complex academic environmentExperience with current and evolving technology and its impact on teaching, learning, and resourcesExperience leading and implementing programs and initiatives to support equity, diversity, and inclusion in the post-secondary settingExperience managing teams in a multi-disciplinary environmentExperience in student enrolment, recruitment, and retention strategiesDemonstrated success in the recruitment, development, and retention of dynamic team members INTERPERSONAL SKILLSProfessional, inclusive, consultative, and collaborativeLeads with an open-minded, positive, and enthusiastic approachExcellent written, presentation, and oral communication skillsPrincipled, ethical, and strategic decision maker with sound judgementResilient, proactive, creative problem solver Additional InformationThis approximate start date for this regular full-time position is June 2, 2025.Regular hours of work are 8 : 30 am to 4 : 30 pm, Monday to Friday.Travel between Douglas College's locations may be required.
