The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Healthcare. The program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
Position Summary
Under general supervision and direction, the Medical Laboratory Technologist performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures accurately, efficiently, and safely in accordance with HRLMP policies and procedures. These include but are not exclusive to : the performance of clinical chemistry, immunology and red cell disorder testing, perform quality control procedures, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, participate in the development and implementation of new methodology and demonstrate a commitment to continuing education . The MLT will be utilizing a diversity of instrumentation including; gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, radioimmunoassay, and immunofluorescence assays. In addition to specimen testing the MLT will perform additional tasks as required. These include but are not limited to : teaching, training, method evaluation, technical writing, quality assurance projects and safety projects. This position may involve rotation between the Hamilton General Hospital and McMaster Children’s Hospital.
