Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Unit Lead, the Cartographic Technologist plans, coordinates, and consults on the creation and delivery of customized map and data products focused on natural resource and environmental management. This includes producing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and map series to meet current and future departmental strategic business needs. Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing digital processes and standards for data restructuring, and applying cartographic principles to integrate various data sources and formats. The role requires considerable initiative and adaptability to produce high-quality maps, brochures, displays, reports, web applications, wall maps, and other products. Additionally, the Cartographic Technologist provides essential support to Ministerial executives, enabling strategic decision-making with accurate and responsive mapping solutions. Quick turnaround on urgent Ministerial requests is critical, as is the ability to communicate effectively to clarify client needs and deliver precise solutions.
