Summer Student - Finance

The Regional Municipality of Durham is currently recruiting students for summer student employment for 2026 in our Finance department.

The successful student will:

- Assist with daily and monthly transactions related to bank deposits
- Investigate and address problems for returned mail and update case management systems as necessary
- Coding and reconciliation of transactions to the financial system
- Compile daily summaries of receipts and prepare necessary entries for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable
- Update and maintain accurate client records in multiply case management systems
- Assist in clerical and general accounting duties
- Analyze and reconcile invoices to data in systems
- Possibility of face-to-face customer interaction and first point of contact
- Gather and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
- Assist in preparing account reconciliations and reconciling financial variances
- Assist in the processing of capital asset depreciation, asset disposals and revaluations
- Assist with the closing of Purchase Orders
- Assist in documentation of financial procedures and the creation of standardized reporting templates
- Assist with projects as assigned

The successful student will possess:

- Current enrollment in a full time post secondary program in accounting, finance, commerce or a related discipline
- Returning to school full time in Fall 2026
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Excel
- Strong time management skills and attention to detail

- Most positions are available from the beginning of May through to the end of August.

- Wage: $20.54 to $22.82 per hour
