Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking an experienced Civil Quality Lab Manager to join our team supporting the construction of the Cheekye Debris Flow Barrier in Squamish, BC.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and materials testing, with a proven track record of managing laboratory operations and ensuring quality standards are met.

District Overview

Kiewit’s Western Canada District is headquartered in Burnaby, British Columbia. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities.

Location

This is a site-based position located in Squamish, BC . Travel allowance may be provided for the selected candidate. #LI-RP1

Responsibilities

Lab Management :

  • Oversee the daily operations of the quality control laboratory.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Implement and maintain laboratory policies and procedures.

Quality Control :

  • Develop and implement quality control plans and procedures.
  • Conduct tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any quality issues in the construction process.

Team Leadership :

  • Supervise and train lab technicians and other staff members.
  • Assign tasks and manage workflow within the laboratory.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

Project Support :

  • Work closely with project managers and site engineers to ensure quality standards are met on construction projects.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to project teams.
  • Attend project meetings and provide updates on quality control activities.

Documentation and Reporting :

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all testing activities.
  • Prepare and present quality control reports to management and clients.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality control laboratory within the construction industry, including two years of experience supervising quality staff on a construction project.
  • Must be a CCIL certified concrete tester.
  • Must have experience with RCC concrete.
  • Strong knowledge of materials testing procedures and standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in laboratory software and data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification as a Quality Manager (CQM), and / or a P. Eng or similar is preferred.

  • Regular, reliable attendance
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • May work at various different locations and conditions may vary

Base Compensation : $95,000 / yr - $110,000 / yr

  • Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and / or location.
  • Additional compensation or uplifts may be available depending on the project assigned.
