The Food Services Coordinator prepares food for groups up to 500+ along with maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment, following established health and safety procedures.
This position provides leadership to Food Services staff during their shift along with training and coaching staff, and assumes responsibility for Food Services during super the supervisor’s absences.
The Food Services Coordinator also supports the supervisor as required with inventory management, monitoring food and supplies inventories, and assisting with ordering from third party vendors.
In this role, you will :
- Provide leadership to and ensures completion of food preparation, cooking, serving, and delivering snacks; assists supervisor with menu planning
- Responsible for following food safety procedures when preparing meals, ensures temperatures are correct, the quality and quantity of food is in accordance to the standards and procedures and production sheets
- Responsible for providing food which is attractive, balanced, and age appropriate
- Responsible for food substitutions for guests with dietary restrictions and cultural needs; ensures awareness of guests’ food allergies and restrictions and provision of substitute food
- Responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and in good order in accordance with the establish maintenance schedule, meeting the guidelines of the Public Health Department and the Occupational Health & Safely Act;
maintains a safe environment for food and equipment
- Provide friendly, prompt customer service
- Assist in the washing of dishes and food packaging containers
- Provide support to supervisor with training new employees, allocating tasks as required to meet groups’ needs
- Support supervisor with food and supplies ordering with vendors within established schedules; monitors inventory, identifies supplies / food replenishments required to supervisor;
assists in storage of supplies using the first in first out method, rotating stock; ensures proper storage of products
- Provide leadership to staff during shift; support supervisor with staff scheduling
- Support Joint Health and safety committee with inspections of site monthly. Provide feedback on workers suggestions. Assists with monitoring compliance with health and safety regulations
- Work closely with Farm Team to coordinate availability of produce for kitchen. Coaches’ Food Services Team on proper washing of produce, preparation and storage methods.

What you need to succeed :
- Commitment to the YMCA’s
- Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
- YMCA Competencies : Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter
You bring :
- Completion of some post-secondary courses in related field
- Minimum two years’ working in an industrial kitchen
- Food Handler’s Certificate, First Aid, WHIMIS
- Previous experience supervising staff preferred
- Excellent written communication skills
- JHSC level one certified
- Previous experience of agriculture, gardening, landscaping preferred
- Must be able to work flexible schedule including days, evening, and weekends
