Wetaskiwin Mission Church (WMC) Lead Pastor
The Big Picture
Wetaskiwin Mission Church (wetaskiwinmissionchurch.org) is prayerfully seeking a full-time Lead Pastor to lead with a plurality of elders a multigenerational congregation of approximately 150 regular attendees. This need has arisen following the resignation of the former Lead Pastor who served faithfully for the past 15 years; since his resignation the church has had an Interim Pastor who has been preaching along with 3 other men.
The successful pastor candidate will be called upon to bring vision and leadership for our church while also embracing our history and established mission, which is ?Preaching Christ As Man?s Only Hope?. This will be accomplished by effectively preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, guiding the congregation in continual spiritual growth, and providing pastoral care and love to the congregation and our community through the love of Christ.
WMC is a member of the Associated Gospel Churches of Canada (AGC) (agcofcanada.com).
Wetaskiwin is located 70 kilometres south of the provincial capital of Edmonton.
Senior Pastor Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Lead Pastor serves alongside a team of elders as a key spiritual leader of the church and along with the elders is responsible for spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and overall administration, in accordance with the authority of Scripture and guided by the constitution and bylaws of WMC. The Lead Pastor?s overall responsibility, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, is to guide members and attenders to a closer and deeper relationship with God, and as such this role requires a deep commitment to faith, effective expositional preaching, strong leadership, a commitment to a plurality of elders, and a passion for guiding the congregation in spiritual growth. We are looking for a candidate who conforms to the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. Following are key responsibilities that WMC is looking for in a Lead Pastor.
Spiritual Leadership (60%)
Prepare and deliver Christ-centered, Bible-based expositional sermons each week.
Collaborate with ministerial staff and music teams to coordinate a cohesive and spiritually meaningful, weekly worship service.
Prepare Bible studies and teachings that are biblically sound and relevant to our congregation.
Collectively develop, execute, and communicate the church?s mission and vision by aligning ministerial activities with the church?s overall goals for spiritual and physical growth.
Pastoral Care (30%)
Provide spiritual guidance and counselling to congregation members, in collaboration with other available resources.
Actively participate in visitation to members in hospitals, nursing homes and private residences. Offer support and prayer during these visits to provide comfort and spiritual care.
Promote and foster a sense of community within the congregation, mutual discipleship, and encourage outreach efforts to the wider community.
Administrative Duties (10%)
Oversee and coordinate ministerial staff, including other pastors, ministry leaders, and church staff.
Meet with the church lay leadership regularly and provide them with monthly reports.
Regularly attend staff and committee meetings as assigned.
Collaborate with lay leadership to manage church budget and financial resources.
Ensure compliance with church policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications
Preference will be given to those who have already obtained a Master?s degree or higher degree from a recognized evangelical seminary.
Five or more years of experience in pastoral ministry in a role that involved preaching and supervision of staff.
Currently an ordained minister or able to qualify for ordination in the AGC.
Willing to participate in educational and enrichment opportunities.
Responsibility
The Lead Pastor is accountable to the Board of Elders and is required to submit detailed monthly reports outlining all pastoral activities, initiatives, and progress. These reports will ensure transparency and facilitate effective communication between the Lead Pastor, the Board of Elders, and the congregation.

AGC credentialing process https://agcofcanada.com/opportunities
Complete an extensive Bible knowledge questionnaire covering doctrine, call to ministry, philosophy of ministry, and a testimony section
Submit three references to the AGC (in addition to any other requested references).
Participate in an in-person interview with three AGC pastors (selected from your area).
