Job Summary :
The Intermediate Building Science Specialist serves to assist with designing and coordinating building envelope renovation and new construction projects, and providing technical expertise to our team. Projects will include : multi-family residential; municipal, provincial and federally owned facilities; K-12 and higher education; mixed-use commercial office and retail, industrial. In this role, you will
- Conduct field investigations, which includes monitoring progress according to specifications, and conformity to building codes and standards, and preparing reports;
- Prepare reports, analysis and design, plans, details and specifications for additions / modifications / renovations to buildings;
- Conduct condition survey assessments through the testing and evaluation of building envelope systems;
- Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference;
- Prioritize and deliver multiple small projects, from beginning to end, with supervision;
- Provide assistance with the tender process and Construction Administration Services;
- Liaise with clients, design team consultants and contractors to ensure all project work is compliant with the design documents, while ensuring the projects will be delivered on time and on budget;
- Use initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, investigate design and field engineering difficulties;
- Mentor junior staff, in a collaborative team environment;
- Some knowledge of related disciplines / fields of Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Structural engineering is preferred
- Work with Senior Staff; taking direction as / when required.
You will be a great fit if :
You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science, Engineering or Architecture from an accredited university; or are a CET holder with related experience;Professional Engineering Designation or eligible to obtain required;You have 4-8 years prior experience in building science / building envelope restoration in a consulting or contracting environment;You have knowledge of building codes and standards;You have experience with concrete and masonry restoration, roofing, cladding and building opening upgrades, etc.;.You have access to a reliable vehicle with a valid Alberta Driver’s License for travel to client sites;You are willing to work on site and deal with contractors;You are comfortable with working at heights or in confined spaces;Be willing to travel to sites throughout Alberta and British Colombia that may require overnight stays.Skills / abilities :
Project management skills with the ability to work with a design team and work on multiple projects at same time;Excellent communication and organizational skills; including technical writing;Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team-oriented environment;Computer literate and proficient in the use of relevant computer applications, including developed skills in Word and Excel. AutoCAD experience is considered a plus;Good people skills and leadership / management experience would be a desirable asset;Ability to work overtime when required;Location : Calgary, Alberta (Hybrid)
