Employment Terms : Part-time, Contract

The Opportunity :

Branksome Hall currently has an opportunity for a native language teacher for the school’s International Language instruction program for the 2024-25 academic year. We require a native language instructor for the Portuguese language from the Brazilian dialect specifically.

With strong communication skills and a proven ability to build a caring rapport with students, the successful candidate will join the International Languagesteam and report to the International Languages Coordinator.

Class time will be for one or two hours depending on the grade level of the student and run between 3 : 30 - 8 : 30 on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Efforts will be made to support the schedule of both the instructor and the students.

These weekly classes take place on our school campus.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

Classroom instruction for one and possibly two classes of single students or small groups of students in Grade 7 to 12;

The instruction is to students who are fluent in the language of instruction, and learning to understand and analyze its literature and other texts;

Review and give feedback of student work to students and to International Language Coordinator;

Formally report on each student’s progress;

One academic year commitment with the possibility of extension.

Required Qualifications and Experience :

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution;

Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree would be an asset;

Minimum three years’ teaching experience;

Experience teaching higher level thinking to fluent students;

Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;

Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in a laptop and online environment;

Adept at delivering education program electronically and be able to use electronic communication to correspond with students, parents, colleagues;

Possesses strong oral and written communication skills;

Work independently with little direct supervision;

Strong time management skills;

Utilize all required and recommended computer applications.
