POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Director Organizational Development & Culture the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Specialist will play a key role in advancing CMHs DEI and Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation commitments. This role will lead initiatives that promote a respectful inclusive and culturally safe work environment for all.

The DEI Specialist will be responsible for driving the development and implementation of CMHs DEI Plan and Indigenous Truth & ReconciliACTION Plan building and nurturing community partnerships and leading education and awareness initiatives across the organization. This includes chairing CMHs Diversity Council and supporting the Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation Council to ensure alignment with organizational goals and best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead coordinate and execute projects that align with CMHs DEI and Truth & Reconciliation objectives ensuring initiatives are delivered on time on scope and on budget.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance equity-focused strategies and foster inclusive workplace practices.
  • Design and deliver DEI learning opportunities workshops and awareness campaigns to build organizational capacity and understanding.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with diverse community partners and Indigenous organizations.
  • Apply evidence-informed approaches and project management methodologies to plan evaluate and continuously improve DEI initiatives.
  • Facilitate small group sessions and discussions that create safe spaces for open meaningful dialogue and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Provide expert guidance and consultation to leadership and staff on DEI-related issues policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with HR and leadership to review and enhance policies procedures and recruitment practices to ensure they promote equity accessibility and cultural safety.
  • Collect analyze and report on DEI and Truth & Reconciliation metrics to track progress measure impact and inform ongoing improvement.
  • Develop internal communication strategies to share stories celebrate milestones and sustain organization-wide engagement in DEI and ReconciliACTION efforts.
  • Ensure DEI and Indigenous initiatives contribute to culturally safe and equitable patient family and community experiences.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Social Services Humanities Equity or Social Justice Human Resources or a health-related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • EDI certification (e.g. Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional) and/or Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or a demonstrated commitment to cultural humility through ongoing learning self-reflection and openness to diverse perspectives
  • Experience working in a complex healthcare or public sector environment is an asset
  • Proven experience advancing Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation efforts and sustainable culture change and transformation
  • Experience in community-based work with the ability to build and sustain meaningful partnerships
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving community or significant experience working with marginalized or Indigenous populations is considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to use data metrics and feedback to evaluate and strengthen DEI initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional relationships within the community and across organizational levels
  • Strong commitment to fostering and maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace culture
  • Demonstrated experience planning coordinating and executing projects effectively and efficiently
  • Experience implementing sustainable change initiatives that drive measurable impact
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload adapt to shifting priorities and meet challenging deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage and present to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to foster trust and collaboration among hospital staff medical professionals leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Sound judgment initiative and the ability to act independently when required
  • Strong analytical conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and reconciliation to support healthy workplace relationships
  • Consistent reliable attendance and commitment to organizational excellence
