The Opportunity :
As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Finance team, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for processing US and Canadian payroll accurately and in a timely manner, filing payroll related remittances and maintaining strong relationships with payroll providers and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong knowledge of payroll concepts, processes and legislation in both American and Canadian payroll, a problem-solving attitude, strong communications skills and a high level of attention to detail. These tasks will be completed while ensuring compliance with Corporate Policies, Collective Agreements and Legislative requirements in the US and Canada while consistently maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life :
- Process, reconcile and remit all Regulatory remittances in a timely fashion for US and Canadian Payroll.
- Balance and remit all benefits, K and union dues in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements and policies.
- Involved in month end close activities including : Respond timely to requests which enable the reconciliation of payroll general ledger accounts Provide headcount and labour reports within specified timelines Run Ad Hoc reports as required to meet business needs
- Identify opportunities and recommend enhancements to processes / procedures and policies where applicable, teaming with the stakeholders for development and implementation strategies.
- Ensure policies, controls and standards are updated, adhered to and adequately captured. Create, update and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) documentation for payroll tasks / processes
- Ensure controls are in place and operating effectively to meet C3 audit requirements in addition to supporting internal / external audit requests
- Key liaison between payroll and internal and external customers for all payroll related inquiries.
- Key member for all weekly, monthly and year end activities.
- Support programing changes as required due to CBA changes or policy for benefits and earnings on payroll system.
- Provide Payroll back up and support to team members as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring :
3-5 years payroll experience for both Canada and US which includes : exposure to accounting procedures, multiple Union Contracts and provinces / states within Canada and the US, and processing payrolls in excess of 10, employees.Bilingual (French) preferred.Completed one or more or working towards the following designations : (Payroll Practioner or Payroll Professional)Experience in a related field such as finance, accounting or business with effective accounting skills.Extensive knowledge of Canadian and American payroll administration practices and related government reporting requirements in a union and non-union, multi-jurisdictional environment.In depth knowledge of Canadian and US taxable benefits / pension administration practices.Experience with SAP HR / Finance, ADP Workforce Now, ADP Reporting tool and Kronos Workforce Now.Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional mannerStrong interpersonal / communication skills required; ability to deal with inquiries tactfully from all levels of the organization and external agencies.Strong business acumen with an interest in improving processes and creating efficiencies.Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with the attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issuesStrong time management skills with demonstrated ability to multitask and able to work in a fast-paced environment both independently and as part of a teamDeadline and solutions oriented and proactive with a proven track record.Advanced MS Excel skills and working knowledge of MS Word and Outlook required.What We Offer at Maple Leaf Foods :
