The ideal candidate :

  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. environmental sciences, Earth Sciences, environmental technology, Engineer program, or any other physical science-related diploma or degree programs.
  • Being eligible for, or possessing, certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist, Certified Technician, or Environmental Practitioner is an asset.
  • At least 2 years related experience with contaminated site assessment and monitoring, environmental monitoring on construction projects, and / or designated substances surveys.
  • Willing to undertake field work year-round and travel throughout Ontario and other parts of Canada. Must have a valid Class G driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to undertake work requiring moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing;
  • walking over rough, uneven, rocky or heavily vegetated terrain; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities.
  • Bilingualism and mechanical aptitude are assets.
  • Self-motivated, with excellent time management and communication skills.

  • Your role within the team :

    As a Field Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our environmental and engineering projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and grow within a company that values your personal and professional development. Your role and responsibilities will include conducting field work on a wide range of environmental investigations, remediation, and construction projects. you will be part of our environmental site assessment, hydrogeological investigation, excess soil management, dewatering management, and remediation teams. your primary responsibilities will include conducting fieldwork related to collecting soil and groundwater samples, monitoring, investigating, and remediating contaminated sites.

    Safely and accurately conducting field work is the cornerstone of all our projects, so your role carries a great deal of importance, responsibility and opportunity. Your responsibilities may also include oversight of project staff and subcontractors, project coordination, contributing to proposals and project reports, quality management, and regulatory understanding and compliance. Your manager will review your performance and progress with you regularly and will work with you to create professional development plans to foster your career growth.

    To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following :

    Simultaneously support several projects and working with different project teams, each with their own objectives and challenges. Implement project-specific environmental work plans, including monitoring and / or sampling of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, plants, soil vapour, air, building materials and / or other media. Operate and maintain typical field equipment including water level meters, combustible gas indicators, water quality monitors, GPS, and elevation survey equipment. Prepare and submit environmental samples under Chain of Custody procedures for chemical analysis at third party laboratories. Document your work and interactions in field notes and logs, photographs, and electronic data collection systems. Contribute to other project life-cycle activities including proposal preparation, project planning and coordination, Health and Safety Plan development, subcontractor supervision, project quality, and reporting. Participate in technical and operational training.
