POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Development Worker’s primary goal is to support and connect families on their journey to wellness. Support and connection are provided to families who are experiencing mental health and child welfare challenges through one-on-one coaching, individual, family, and community education and awareness activities, and referral to other health and social services agencies.

This position provides service to families.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Maintain confidentiality of professionally acquired information.
  • Provide service in a non-judgmental & culturally sensitive manner.
  • Provide services promptly and respectfully.
  • Provide services fairly, equitably, and unbiased, according to existing policies and procedures.
  • Is accessible, accountable, and responsive to community members.
  • Work as a team member of the Health Department, the Child, and Family Services program.
  • Receive referrals from community / families / individuals and / or other health services workers.
  • Completes initial assessments and refers clients to appropriate services and programs.
  • Assist clients to identify, develop and implement plans to improve wellness.
  • Facilitate regular case conferences with clients and families.
  • Maintain professional and accurate client service records.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement workshops on relevant topics.
  • Maintain healthy professional boundaries with clients while promoting client independence.
  • Consults with supervisor on client work plans and services.
  • Identifies gaps in services and brings the information to the attention of the Seabird Island Health Team.
  • Submit monthly narrative report on activities to the Supervisor, by the 5th day of every month for the previous month’s activities and submit program schedules two months in advance to supervisor.
  • Attend scheduled team meetings with the Health or Mental Health Team staff members, and other meetings as requested by your supervisor.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the Seabird Island Band Personnel Policies and Procedures, as well as other protocols and agreements such as the Xyolhemeylh Child and Family Protocol Agreement.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.

WHAT YOU BRING

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field required.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention certificate an asset.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Trauma-informed practice skills
  • Having knowledge of child protection issues and experience is an asset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain trusting, supportive, caring relationships with children and families.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and to work under pressure.
  • Flexible and creative.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Ability to work independently yet possess a strong team spirit.
  • Knowledge of family dynamics, addictions, and community resources

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
  • Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
  • Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó : lō culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
  • Experience working with First Nations community is an asset.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract within the last 5 years.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRRP)
