Job Description

AECOM  is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Archaeology Lab Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist in the processing, analysis, and curation of archaeological materials, ensuring that artifacts are handled, documented, and preserved according to established protocols. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to significant archaeological projects.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Cleaning, cataloging, and analysis of artifacts recovered from archaeological sites.
  • Maintain accurate records of artifact provenance and laboratory activities. Utilize specialized software for data entry and artifact management.
  • Prepare artifacts for storage and conservation, following best practices.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of materials (e.g., pottery, bone, lithics).
  • Collaborate with archaeologists and other lab staff to support ongoing research and excavation projects.
  • Participate in the maintenance and organization of the lab space and equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations based on lab findings.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in an archaeology lab setting or related experience in artifact analysis and curation.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to [specify weight, e.g., 25 lbs].
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with laboratory software (e.g., Microsoft Office, database management).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of conservation techniques and artifact handling is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MCM Standards & Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license. (Access to a vehicle preferred)
