Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on a remote project site for one of our largest projects in Canada. This role is critical to ensuring the project is executed safely, on schedule, and in line with quality expectations. The Superintendent is the primary on-site authority, overseeing crews, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with project specs and safety regulations. We anticipate there will be approximately 25-30 employees and subcontractors on site for the majority of the project.
This position requires strong leadership, field-level coordination skills, and a deep understanding of geohazard construction and remote site logistics.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Crew Management
- Direct day-to-day field operations, ensuring all work is completed safely, on time, and to spec.
- Supervise and coordinate field crews and subcontractors.
- Lead daily tailgate meetings, safety briefings, and toolbox talks.
- Monitor productivity and crew performance, addressing issues in real time.
Project Execution & Quality Control
Interpret drawings, specs, and scope of work to guide field implementation.Ensure all work complies with design, QA / QC standards, and client requirements.Coordinate closely with Project Manager and Project Coordinator for schedule alignment and reporting.Perform field-level inspections and documentation.Equipment & Material Coordination
Oversee daily use and maintenance of tools and heavy equipment.Coordinate delivery and staging of materials to minimize delays.Communicate material and equipment needs proactively to office and PM.Safety & Compliance
Enforce all safety protocols on-site in collaboration with HSE representatives.Ensure all workers and subcontractors comply with safety policies and wear appropriate PPE.Lead incident investigations and report any near misses, injuries, or safety breaches.Communication & Reporting
Maintain regular communication with head office, PM, and client representatives.Submit daily site reports, including progress updates, photos, and safety documentation.Flag schedule risks or change conditions immediately to project management.Qualifications
5+ years of supervisory experience on geotechnical, mining, remote construction, rope access, and / or heavy civil projects.Proven track record managing crews on remote, rotational projects.Deep understanding of field construction workflows, geohazard mitigation, and remote logistics.Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and enforce standards.Excellent problem-solving ability and situational awareness in dynamic job site conditions.Safety-first mindset with working knowledge of provincial / federal safety regulations.Competent Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams) for field reporting.Authorized to work in Canada.Nice to Have
Trade certification, Red Seal, or formal technical training.Experience with rope access systems or drilling equipment.First Aid, WHMIS, and other safety certifications.Work Environment
On-site work in a remote location on a 2-week rotation. All travel arrangements and expenses are covered.Field-based role, requiring 12-hour days with physical presence on the job site.Job Types : Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length : 5 months
Pay : $55.00 – 65.00 per hour
Expected hours : 12 per day, 2-week rotation
