As this industry-leader’s new Junior Mechanical Design Engineer you will be crucial in supporting the engineering department in designing, drawing, processing, and estimating jobs. To be successful in this important position, you will have sheet metal and metal fabrication experience, a background in mechanical engineering, and experience in a manufacturing or fabrication company.
Assist in the design and development of metal stamped and machined components, assemblies, and toolingCreate and update 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)Support senior engineers with mechanical design tasks, product development, and continuous improvement projectsInterpret customer specifications, technical drawings, and industry standards to develop manufacturable designsParticipate in prototype development, testing, and design validation activitiesWork closely with production, quality, and tool room teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout manufacturingContribute to the preparation of Bill of Materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and design reportsAssist in root cause analysis and corrective action related to design and quality issuesEnsure all designs meet applicable safety, regulatory, and quality standardsStay current with emerging manufacturing technologies and engineering best practicesParticipate in project meetings and communicate design status and updates effectivelyExperience
Mechanical or industrial design engineering experienceSheet metal and metal fabrication experienceKnowledge and experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD, particularly sheet metal features, material properties, drawings, and renderingsExperience generating drawings and CAD packages for production releaseQualifications
Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, equipment, and manufacturing workflows, specifically bending / forming, laser cutting, and weldingFamiliarity with AutoCADExperience generating drawings and CAD packages for production releaseProficiency with welding symbols, blueprints, shop drawings, and measurement toolsAnalytical approach to problem-solving and ability to develop creative technical solutionsUnderstanding of DFA / DFM methodologiesStrong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and writtenSound understanding of BOM structures and process routings in an ERP environmentEducation
