The Design Engineering Mechanical Systems Associate Engineer / Specialist opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada. The base salary hiring range for this position is $60,000 to $92,400 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional components of our total compensation package, such as our incentive award program and other rewards like health benefits, employee profit-sharing, retirement savings, and more. Job Description
The Design Engineering role in the Electrical and the C4 (Command, Control, Communications, Computers) Design Engineering team is responsible to execute full life cycle design activity on any assigned task within the subsystem and take responsibility to overcome design challenges independently. In addition, to be accountable for design fit, form, & functionality, ensuring compliance to requirements across the team. Areas of focus is expertise in one of the following domains :
- Electrical : Automotive Power Generation, Storage and Distribution, Automotive Controls of Electro-Mechanical Systems, Automotive Internal and External Lights selection and integration, Power and Data Controllers, Wiring Harness designs including specialty signals types (CANBUS, Ethernet, etc), Vehicle Schematic Development, Alternating Current Devices (Inverters, Battery Chargers, AC Receptacles), and Vehicle Level Software Testing
- Command, Control, Communications, Computers (C4 ) : Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems : radios / antennas and intercom systems, navigation systems, cameras and electro-optic sensors, video networks, unscrewed systems (UAV, UGV, etc), designing wiring harnesses for such systems.
Key Job Elements
Execute component / assembly level design tasks while keeping supervisor regularly informed on progress and issues encountered. Ensure all designs are peer reviewed by technical lead or assigned mentor.Support test planning, execution, and reporting as assigned under supervision of test lead.Support quality and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) related activities as requested.Responsible for executing design engineering tasks according to design engineering processes,Responsible for the development of low and medium complexity wire harnesses using CAPITAL software tool.Provide support to the Design Services team for the release of commercial components, wire harness routings, and drawings.Collect supporting data for the development of power budgets, Signal Interface Data (SIDs), subsystem architecture, and subsystem functional diagrams. Collect artifacts for assigned subsystems and coordinate with the subsystem lead to review the supporting documentation.Participate in discussions with customers related to the definitization of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) for each assigned project. Engage with vendors on the selection and finalization of products.Configure Command, Control, Communications, Computers (C4) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Line Replacement Unit (LRU) firmware parameters for demonstrations and testing. University Degree or College Diploma in a related fieldMinimum 1 year relevant experienceBasic computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPointSuperior oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & International) and possess / be able to acquire and maintain a valid passportMust be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Requirements for confined spacePreferred Qualifications
Experience acquired through a post-secondary internship or co-op program in a related fieldAbility to understand and review to GDLS-C drawing standards.Expertise in harness design tools such as Siemens’ Capital Enterprise suite or ZukenFamiliarity with IPC / WHMA-A-620D, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness AssembliesExperience with C4ISR systems on military vehiclesEng. or ability to obtain P. Eng designationProficient with GDLS-C processes and productsWorking Conditions
