Reporting to the Regional Manager Population Health, the Regional Nutritionist brings nutrition expertise to the Regional Health Team and health promotion partners. The Regional Nutritionist ensures that nutrition programs developed and / or delivered in the region, are evidence-based, take a population health approach, and are guided by best-practice principles. This position provides nutrition leadership and support community-based health programming and supports community workers with resources and training related nutrition and health leadership development.
Based on researched information, assessment of regional needs, the organization’s Business Plan, the Dieticians of Canada Standards of Practice, and in consultation with other professionals, the Nutritionist assesses, plans and develops leads, manages, and evaluates a region-wide Nutrition Health Program designed to prevent disease and improve health of all residents in the respective regions.
The Regional Nutritionist analyze information, identify and consider options, make decisions at time in the absence of guidelines, and to make professional recommendations to senior management; provide collaborative leadership for regional health promotion programming. The delivery of this programming at the community level is shared with other regional personnel, such a Community Health Representatives (CHR’s) and wellness program workers; assess, develop, and evaluate Regional Nutritional Program areas to realize greater health impact from available limited resources and within departmental priorities; facilitate the development of community-based nutrition programs to increase community capacity and health; administer the financial and physical resources of the Regional Nutrition Program to meet organizational needs and for the effective operation of the Region; in partnership with other regional and territorial nutrition personnel, develop, distribute and evaluate resource material for learning purposes ensuring culture and literacy are accounted for; and in partnership with other regional and territorial nutrition and population health personnel, lead nutrition health promotion activities to teach and promote healthy food habits and lifestyles that will decrease incidence of disease and optimize health, with due regard to country food, traditional life-styles, and food security.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
