Job description

Title : Corporate Controller (opportunity to succeed to Vice-President, Corporate Controller)

Location : One, Dr. David Friesen Drive, Winnipeg (Sage Creek)

Qualico is seeking a Corporate Controller – a senior leadership position, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.

As the Corporate Controller you are responsible for providing accounting services, financial statements, reports, forecasts, and analyses to Shareholders and Executive Management. You will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, compliance with regulatory standards, and the implementation of internal controls and well as provide overall strategic resource planning for ERP system functions.

This position may lead to assuming tax responsibilities, with the opportunity to succeed into the VP, Corporate Controller role.

Profile Overview :

  • Lead the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities, promoting a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Prepare and review annual consolidated financial plans, budgets, reports, and audit information.
  • Provide monthly consolidated financial profit and loss statements, reports, and forecasts for joint arrangements, investments, and subsidiaries.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts, working closely with other departments and provide financial forecasts and strategic planning insights to help guide the company's future financial direction.
  • Ensure proper absorption of corporate costs using appropriate allocation procedures and ensure branch operations comply with corporate policies and GAAP.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Liaise with the business software team regarding system strategy and prioritize related activities.
  • Liaise with corporate management to ensure initiatives are administered in compliance with legal, tax, and accounting objectives.
  • Participate and contribute to corporate and company-wide initiatives.

Ideal Experience and Qualifications :

  • Professional certifications as CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA are required.
  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience at the Controller level.
  • Background in working with consolidated financial statements is required.
  • Understanding of GAAP, consolidation accounting, income tax, and accounting standards for private enterprise (ASPE).
  • Prior working experience in real estate development, manufacturing, and / or construction is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiating, influencing, prioritization, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
  • A collaborator who builds trusting and successful working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.
  • A leader who takes responsibility for the outcomes of decisions and actions, ensuring transparency and integrity in all financial dealings, and who encourages the same in their team.
