Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications foran Expression of Interest (EOI) for the temporary (up to 90 day), full-time position of Youth Operations Worker in the Recreation Programming division of Parks & Recreation.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, the Youth Operations Worker is responsible for supervising a working group of youth participants, ensuring safe work practices are consistently followed in carrying out operational plans.
The Youth Operations Worker observes the youth behaviours, provides coaching and records the information.
The Youth Operations Worker is primarily assigned to one operation; however, there will be instances that require the Youth Operations Worker to oversee any of the business operations currently being offered by the Youth Worx's Program to meet operational demands and maintain service levels.
This position will be focused on the Green Cart Delivery & Repair Operation located at 1300 St. Margaret's Bay Road, Beechville, and Food Service Operations at the Cafe located at Sackville Sports Stadium.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain a healthy and safe workplace, ensuring all Occupational Health and Safety requirements are followed.
- Provide coaching, guidance, support and direction to youth at risk work group in a labour-intensive environment.
- Issue all uniform and personal protective equipment to their program participants working group.
- Guide program participants in the practical development of job and life skills.
- Act as first responder in the complaint resolution process for program participants.
- Complete formal and informal assessments on program participants job skill development and workplace behaviour using ESAT.
- Ensure program participants follow program guidelines.
- Following the program's behaviour model, the incumbent can take corrective or disciplinary action as required.
- Provide and record information in the participant database tracking system (ESAT).
- Assist in decision making regarding potential dismissal of participants from program.
- Other supervisory duties as required.
- Develop and execute daily work plans in assigned operation.
- Inspect equipment and reports any deficiencies and potential safety hazards.
- Complete the daily vehicle checklist and reports any deficiencies and potential safety hazards.
- Cash management and daily balancing of floats (if assigned to the Cafe).
- Complete Organic Green Cart delivery, repair and dismantling (if assigned to the Green Cart Operation).
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Act as first responder in addressing customer concerns and responding to queries regarding the Youth Worx Program.
- Responsible for documenting work order information used to create customer invoices.
- Other customer service duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience :
- Grade 12 or equivalent with progressively responsible experience in a customer driven organization.
- Two years' leadership experience working with youth in a recreation, sport or volunteer setting.
- Must possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a driving abstract that meets the requirements of the position.
- Two years' driving experience within the municipality considered an asset.
- Post secondary education considered an asset.
- Participation in the Aspiring or Emerging leaders program considered an asset.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities :
- Normal work hours are based on a 35-hour week, Monday to Friday. Work outside these hours is occasionally required to address operational demands.
- Experience operating a larger vehicle (up to 10 tons or 9000 kgs) considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of computer programs including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and problem solve in a fast-paced, stressful working environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle escalated and difficult customers.
- Ability to supervise a constantly changing and inexperienced youth at risk work group in a labor-intensive environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must clearly demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.
Security Clearance Requirements : Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS : Temporary, full-time (for up to 90 days)
HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday, 8 : 30am-4 : 30pm for 35 hours per week; some evening and weekend work may be required.
SALARY : NU04 on the non-union salary scale; $56,210 -$72,740. Salary to be commensurate with experience.
WORK LOCATION : Youth Worx Warehouse (1300 St. Margaret's Bay Road, Beechville) and the Cafe located at Sackville Sports Stadium (409 Glendale Drive, Lower Sackville)
