The Government / Politics Reporter will be a key player in our newsroom, responsible for covering court, crime, and police matters throughout Saskatchewan.

This role demands a passionate journalist with a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of ethics, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will produce accurate and compelling news stories for both on-air and online publication, utilizing various multimedia tools to enhance storytelling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Covering provincial politics, government issues and the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in Regina.
  • Conducting interviews, research, and fact-checking to produce accurate and engaging news stories for online publication.
  • Pitching story ideas and collaborating with editors and fellow reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage of local events and issues.
  • Working as a team player, co-operating with other reporters on projects that have a province-wide or Regina-focused value.
  • Adhering to tight deadlines and editorial standards while producing high-quality multi-media journalism.
  • Utilizing various multimedia tools, including photography and video, to enhance storytelling.

Essential Knowledge and Skills :

  • Strong understanding of provincial politics and government issues.
  • Excellent interviewing, research, and fact-checking skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain sources within the political community.
  • Proficiency in multimedia tools for storytelling, including photography and video.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and clarity.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities.

Essential Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a reporter covering at least one level of government.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of community dynamics and current events in Regina is preferred.
  • Familiarity with multimedia reporting tools and social media platforms.
  • Commitment to journalistic ethics and integrity.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
